CHICAGO — You'll want to keep the party inside this New Year's Eve.

The day will be cloudy and see a high temperature of just 28 degrees, and at night that could drop to 14 degrees, AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Walker said.

Even worse: Around midnight, it will be 19 degrees out, but it could feel as cold as 5-10 degrees thanks to the wind, Walker said.

"People are gonna have to bundle up because they're not gonna be used to it being that cold," Walker said.

That's a stark contrast from the rest of December: It's been unseasonably warm with near-record high temperatures. But the holiday's low temperatures will be "closer to what they should be" this time of year, Walker said.

"It's been an incredibly mild month for December here in Chicago," Walker said. "This is gonna be a shock to some people. They'll just have to bundle up."
