23-Year-Old Man Shot and Killed in Burnside Tuesday Identified

CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man was killed in a Burnside shooting on Tuesday night, police said.

At 9 p.m., the man was getting out of a car in the 9000 block of South Greenwood Avenue when the driver of the car shot the man "numerous" times and then drove away, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The victim was hit in his head and chest, Estrada said.

Xavier Samuel Thornton, 23, of the 9100 block of South Greenwod Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:23 p.m., according to county records.

Police previously said he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

No one is in custody in the shooting.
