CHICAGO — A Saturday shooting in Little Village left a man dead, police said.

At 9:50 p.m., the man was sitting outside with other people in the 2800 block of West 21st Place, said Officer Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman. A white SUV pulled up and someone inside displayed gang signs and fired a gun, hitting the man in his chest and mouth.

A friend drove the man to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in critical condition, Sedevic said. He was later pronounced dead.

The man was identified as Jose L. Lopez, 37, of the 2800 block of West 21st Street, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Lopez died at 10:40 p.m.
