CHICAGO — A Back of the Yards shooting left one man dead and another injured on Sunday, police said.

At 5:20 a.m., two men were in a parked car in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street when shots were fired at them, said Officer Bari Lemmon, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A 31-year-old man was hit in his chest and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, but he was later pronounced dead, Lemmon said. A 33-year-old man had his head grazed by a bullet and is expected to be treated and released, Lemmon said.

Deovolente Simmons, of the 3800 block of West Lexington, was pronounced dead at 6:42 a.m., according to county records.

The 33-year-old man is a convicted felon, police said.
