WASHINGTON PARK — A 5-year-old boy shot himself in his hand while playing with a loaded gun in his home Saturday, police said.

The shot went off around 4:25 p.m. Saturday at the residence in the 5900 block of Calumet Avenue, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, Estrada said.

Mitchell Myles was arrested in connection to the incident and was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment and misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon, according to a police news release Sunday night. Myles had admitted to having the gun in the home in a place where a child could get it, according to police.

Police did not specify his relation to the child.

No additional information was available.
