WICKER PARK — On Friday, a 9.5-foot-long Christmas tree was transported by bike from Big Star to the doorstep of a Wicker Park home.

Friday marked the first time that Adam Leggero, a courier, delivered a tree by bike, though City Tree Delivery's owner Chris Hohenstein, reached early Saturday, said that other employees have tried it in the past.

"Several of our workers are bike couriers and they love bikes and wanted to try it. Bikes work great for local deliveries when the tree isn't too big," said Hohenstein, whose company sells Fraser firs sourced from Michigan out of the Big Star lot, 1531 N. Damen Ave.

Eleanor Husman, the tree recipient, didn't know that her Christmas decor would be arriving via bicycle.

"We feel great to know it was so eco-friendly. It seems very old school," said Husman, who bought the tree on her way home from picking her daughter up from school on Friday.

Husman, who lives a few blocks away from Big Star, said her family has been buying their annual Christmas tree from City Tree for at least five years.

"It's convenient," Husman said.
