HYDE PARK — Arthur Sussman, the former chief legal officer for the University of Chicago, is expected to be nominated to a third term as chairman of the Seminary Cooperative Bookstore’s board at the annual membership meeting Monday.

The annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Seminary Co-op bookstore, 5751 S. Woodlawn Ave. will provide a glimpse into the health of the 53,000-member cooperative that operates the Seminary Co-op and 57th Street Books.

Sussman, former vice president at the MacArthur Foundation, is expected to be elected to a third three-year term as chairman of the cooperative.

Sussman led the group through major changes for the 54-year-old cooperative during the last few years.

In 2012, the cooperative moved out of its longtime home in the basement of the then-Chicago Theological Seminary at 5757 S. University Ave. when the building was bought by the University of Chicago.

The next year, bookstore director Jack Cella retired after running the Seminary Cooperative for 40 years.

New director Jeff Deutsch will give a report at the annual meeting on the changes he’s made to the organization since taking over for Cella in 2014.

Carolyn Alessio, Stuart Flack, Theaster Gates and Kenneth Warren are also expected to be elected to a second three-year term on the board at the meeting.

All shareholders in the cooperative are invited to attend and the bookstore is offering 10-percent off all purchases to shareholders from 5-8 p.m. Monday.
