GRAND CROSSING — A 31-year-old man was shot in Greater Grand Crossing Friday morning and died hours later, according to official records.
The man was walking in the 7800 block of South Maryland Avenue at 1:20 a.m., when someone got out of an SUV and fired shots before fleeing, said Officer Bari Lemmon, Chicago Police spokeswoman.
He was shot multiple times in his body, Lemmon said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, she said.
According to county medical records, Christopher Williams, of the 800 block of East 78th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5 a.m.
The shooting victim was a documented gang member, police said.
