HYDE PARK — Playwright Ari Roth will visit Kenwood on Dec. 4-5 to talk about his efforts to use theater to cope with what he believes are rising anti-Jewish and anti-Muslim sentiments around the world.
The Washignton, D.C.-based playwright and founder of the Mosaic Theater Company will visit K.A.M. Isaiah Israel, 1100 E. Hyde Park Blvd., to read selections from his plays and how the South Side formed his Jewish identity.
“Something that doesn’t grab the public by the lapels is a theater of no power,” Roth said in an announcement of the event. “We create theater to have social impact, to be disruptive as well as productive.”
At 8:20 p.m. Dec. 4 Roth will deliver a lecture he’s titled “My Personal Mosaic: How the South Side, Europe and Family Narratives Informed My Intercultural Jewish Vision.”
At 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5, Roth will read from playwrights in Israel, Palestine and the United States on Jewish and Muslim identity.
The Dec. 5 reading will be preceded be a lunch at 11:30 a.m. To register for the lunch, visit kamii.org/rsvp.
