SOUTH AUSTIN — A 35-year-old man was shot twice in Austin Thursday night, police said.

Around 10:35 p.m., the man was shot in his arm and his leg in the 4800 block of West Monroe Street, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

After initially refusing medical attention, the man was driven to Stroger Hospital by a friend, Pacheco said. His condition later stabilized.

Police said the man is a documented gang member, and he's not cooperating with authorities.
