PORTAGE PARK — Archbishop Blase Cupich will celebrate a Mass in memory of Cardinal Francis George, who died of cancer in April.

Cupich will celebrate the Mass in memory of George, his predecessor as the head of the Archdiocese of Chicago, at 12:10 p.m. Friday at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St.

In addition, Cupich will remember all of the bishops, priests and deacons who have died in the past year at the archdiocese's annual memorial Mass. It is open to the public.

George was replaced last November by Cupich after announcing he was battling kidney cancer last April. He previously had been treated in 2012 for urothelial cancer and in 2006 for bladder cancer.

George, who grew up in Portage Park, and attended church and school at St. Pascal, 3935 N. Melvina Ave.
