EDISON PARK — Runners looking to work off their Thanksgiving dinner — in advance — can register for the 19th annual Edison Park Turkey Trot.

The 5K race will benefit Imerman Angels, a charity that helps cancer patients by connecting them with "mentor angels" who have survived the same type of cancer to "provide support, empathy and understanding" to patients or caregivers, according to the group's website.

More than 5,000 runners and walkers are expected to take part in the race, which has raised nearly $1 million since the inaugural race in 1996, race organizers said.

The race will start at the Edison Park fieldhouse, 6755 N. Northwest Hwy., at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 26 and loop around Edison Park through tree-lined streets.

A Gobble Gallop for children ages 3 through 12 will take place starting at 8:20 a.m., with the runners divided into three age groups. Online registration is $12, while in-person registration is $15.

Residents who live along the race course can vie for the coveted Best Cheering Section trophy by decorating their lawns and houses and spurring the runners to victory. Blocks must enter by 9 p.m. Nov. 23.

Online registration for the 5K is $20 and is available until Nov. 22. Registration on the day of the race is $25, and will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Edison Park fieldhouse.

Registration forms can also be mailed to or dropped off at 7280 W. Devon Ave.
