LINCOLN SQUARE — Lincoln Square celebrates its German roots during Laternenfest Sunday, with the neighborhood's children invited to take part in a lantern parade.

The German International School Chicago and DANK Haus have planned an afternoon of activities for youngsters, including face painting, crafts, storytelling and a sing-along. Kids will make their own lanterns and then march to Giddings Plaza at dusk.

Laternenfest coincides with the feast of St. Martin, traditionally celebrated throughout Germany on Nov. 11.

Tickets to Sunday's event are $8 for children age two and older; under two are free. Purchase tickets online or at the door Sunday if still available (the event tends to sell out).

The festivities get under way at 2:30 p.m. at DANK Haus, 4740 N. Western Ave.
