CHICAGO — The man who thwarted a robbery at a Gage Park store Saturday by fatally shooting the robber will likely not be charged, Chicago police said Monday.

Reginold Gildersleeve, 55, went into a currency exchange in the 2700 block of West 51st Street at 7 p.m. Saturday armed with a gun and tried to rob the business, according to police and Cook County medical examiner records.

Gildersleeve, of the 5000 block of South California Avenue, was then fatally shot by a customer inside the business at the time of the robbery, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Other customers inside the business witnessed the attempted robbery and shooting, police said.

The man who shot Gildersleeve had a concealed carry license for his gun, police said. With detectives wrapping up their investigation, Chicago police announced Monday morning that charges will likely not be filed against the man who killed Gildersleeve.
