CHICAGO — A 29-year-old man was fatally shot in South Austin early Monday, police said.

The man was on the sidewalk in the 4800 block of West Madison Street around 1:30 a.m. when another man opened fire, said Officer Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

He was struck in his body and pronounced dead on the scene, Sedevic said. The man is a documented gang member, according to police.

The man has been identified as Rashad Stokes, of the 5200 block of West Congress Parkway, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A person is being questioned by police in connection with the shooting, Sedevic said.
