NORTH PARK — With a student body that represents more than 70 nationalities, Peterson Elementary is one of the most diverse schools in Chicago.

Friday's International & History Night, open to the public, celebrates all the cultures, languages and customs found in the greater North Park community.

The event, 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., features a traditional Korean dance performance, music by Mariachi Monumental de Mexico (7 p.m.) and a "taste of Peterson," with food donated by local businesses and Peterson families. Cost is $1 per food ticket, with most items going for 1 to 3 tickets.

A highlight is sure to be Amy Lowe's "Fire in Boomtown," a mix of music, theater, commentary and history that retells the story of the Chicago Fire.

Student performances, artwork and a fashion parade of traditional dress round out the evening.

Peterson Elementary is at 5510 N. Christiana Ave.
