THE LOOP — Families of children ages 6-12 will have the chance to stay up all night at the Chicago Cultural Center next month, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events announced Tuesday.
On Nov. 20-21, the "Up All Night With Architecture family overnight" will cram 12 hours full of interactive architecture activities aimed at turning kids into builders.
According to the announcement, the overnight, lasting from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., will include:
• A "drawing room," in which an architect and volunteer graduate students will work with kids to create one huge architectural sketch on the floor of the Chicago Cultural Center
• "Kids Science Labs," in which children will be able to design and build their own structures out of marshmallows, straws and sticks
• A scavenger hunt around the entire Chicago Cultural Center
• A screening of the 2014 blockbuster "The Lego Movie"
Tickets to the event can be reserved for free, but space will be limited. Advance registration opens at 10 a.m. Monday at the Chicago Cultural Center's website.
