DUNNING — Martin Luther Church has new flower beds and a fresh coat of paint, thanks to Alex Lorenz, who made sprucing up the Dunning church his Eagle Scout project.

Lorenz will be honored for his work Saturday at the Dunning church, 6850 W. Addison St., Scout leaders said.

Lorenz' Eagle Scout project included adding new bushes in front of the building and planting a perennial flowering garden, group leaders said.

In addition to adding flowers to the bushes along the side of the church, Lorenz gave the church's rock bed a face-lift, group leaders said.

Lorenz also painted the church building's doors to conceal scratches and tape marks and washed the windows and frames at the front entrance, group leaders said.

In all, Lorenz earned 21 merit badges to rise to the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor bestowed by the Boy Scouts of America. Approximately 5 percent of Boy Scouts become Eagle Scouts, group leaders said.

Lorenz is a member of St. Celestine Boy Scout Troop 690, which is based in Elmwood Park.
