DOWNTOWN — For the fourth and final time, lane closures this weekend will cause serious delays around the Jane Byrne Interchange, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The outbound Eisenhower Expressway will close at 10 p.m. Friday, officials said. A detour will direct traffic to the Ike via the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway and the 18th Street interchange.

From 8 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, the inbound Kennedy Expressway will be narrowed to one lane between Harrison and Ohio streets.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, according to IDOT.

As in previous weekend lane closures, the delays can be blamed on the installation of steel beams for a new flyover bridge that will link the Ike to the Dan Ryan.

While officials say this is the last time lanes will be blocked for construction, drivers should expect intermittent delays until the wider project is completed in 2016.
