BUCKTOWN —   In partnership with the Chicago Dept. of Public Health, Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) and Ald. Joe Moreno (1st) will be offering free flu shots at their respective Lincoln Park and Humboldt Park offices on Thursday.

The two walk-in clinics, open to the public on a first come, first served basis, are part of a busy October where the city is making free vaccines available at 41 locations. See the full schedule.

Attendees should bring a health insurance or medical card if they have one.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, the shots will be available inside Waguespack's 32nd Ward office at 2657 N. Clybourn Ave.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, the shots will be available inside Moreno's new ward office at 2740 W. North Ave.

The CDC recommends that people get vaccinated against flu soon after the vaccine becomes available, if possible by October. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the flu, according to the the Chicago Dept. of Public Health website.

Adults and children as young as 6 months old can receive the the seasonal flu vaccine, which is designed to protect against the main flu viruses that research suggests will cause the most illness during the flu season.

Influenza season can begin as early as October and usually peaks between December and February but can last as late as May.
