HYDE PARK — The Museum of Science and Industry is kicking off October with two free days.

The museum, 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive, will be free on Monday and Tuesday for the start of Museum Week.

Membership to the museum will be discounted by $20 during Museum Week.

The events continue on Columbus Day weekend with a Robot Block Party from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday to Oct. 12 with a robot chair that can disassemble and reassemble itself and a human-robot band.

From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 17, scientists, researchers and others working in science, technology, engineering and math fields will talk about all the “cool jobs” out there in STEM fields like beverage technologists and cosmetic chemists.

The museum closes out the month with a look at its own past.

At 11 a.m. Oct. 24, the museum will take guests into a virtual simulation of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, which the museum was built for. Local experts and computer scientists will talk about the fair’s architecture and delve into a computer reconstruction of the fair.

The Columbian Exposition event requires an additional ticket, but all other events are included with general admission to the museum.
