CHICAGO — Officers shot and killed a man who charged at them with a gun in North Lawndale Sunday morning, according to a Chicago Police news release.

Police responded to a call of a man with a gun at 8:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw Street. Officers were told a person inside a home on the block had been shot, but the home's door was locked and a man inside refused to open the door, according to a Chicago Police news release.

Officers forced their way into the home and saw the man had a gun, the news release said. He refused to drop his gun, and he charged at the officers while pointing his gun in their direction, according to police.

Police shot the man, striking him fatally. They then found a woman inside the home who had been shot and stabbed several times. She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

Jeffery McCallum, 31, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was pronounced dead at 8:48 a.m. at the scene, according to Cook County Medical Examiners Office records.

No officers were injured during the incident.
