THE LOOP — Haute Sausage, which blends together African and Midwestern flavors in the form of encased meat, is closing its Loop restaurant Friday.
The restaurant at 335 S. Franklin St. that was opened by South Africa native Rich Levy tweeted that Friday is its last day of business. In an interview, Levy said the restaurant "just never did the numbers I wanted it to do" after opening in 2013.
Sausage Nation: Today is the last day in business at 335 S. Franklin. Thank you for your love and support.

Levy, who started his business as a food truck four years ago, said he opened the restaurant mainly to get a kitchen license mandated by what was then the city's new food truck ordinance. The truck will still serve festivals and private events, he said, and may expand beyond that again some day, he said.
"I have a feeling it’s not the end of Haute Sausage," he said.
Levy said he also has a gift card app, Giftie, that's he's focusing on, and another restaurateur plans to open in the storefront at Franklin and Van Buren streets once she gets licensed. Levy declined to identify the new restaurateur.
