HYDE PARK — Gallery owner and author John Corbett will extol the virtues of “little” on Saturday at the Seminary Cooperative Bookstore.

Corbett will discuss “Microgroove: Forays Into Other Music,” a series of essays, oral histories and interviews on the huge cultural impact of bands with small audiences like Sun Ra, P.J. Harvey, Koko Taylor and Steve Lacy.

The book traces everything from the sound of female orgasms in contemporary music to the benefits of different recording formats.

Cellist and composer Tomeka Reid will also perform.

The reading is the first after the book’s release party at 8 p.m. Friday at Constellation, 3111 N. Western Ave., with a performance by The Thing.
