Austin Shooting Kills Man, Police Say

CHICAGO — A man was walking with a friend when he was shot and killed Sunday night, police said.

At 8:20 p.m., a 36-year-old man was walking with a friend in the 1600 block of North Central Avenue in Austin when they heard a shot and the man was struck, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. The man was shot in his stomach and taken in critical condition to West Suburban Medical Center, where he later died, Sedevic said.

The man was identified as Phillip Floro, 37, of the 3000 block of West Franklin Boulevard, in Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Floro died at 9:16 p.m., according to Medical Examiner's records.

The victim was a documented gang member, police said.

No one is in custody for the shooting.
