Nominees Selected for 46th Ward Awards: Time to Vote

UPTOWN — Uptown's favorite neighborhood spots, groups and achievers will compete for the highest honors in this year's 46th Ward Awards: but first, residents need to vote.

Nominations began in August and voting began in September, according to Citizens for Cappleman. The award ceremony will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Uptown Underground, 4707 N. Broadway. Tickets are $46 for ward residents. Tickets to the award ceremony are available here.

The nominees are:

• Best Not-for-Profit: Cornerstone Community Outreach (4628 N. Clifton Ave.), North Side Housing & Support Services (3340 N. Clark St.), Oracle Productions/ Theater (3809 N. Broadway) and RefugeeOne (4753 N. Broadway)

• The Innovator Award (arts and technology): FLATS, Jeffrey Littleton and The Shift (4101 N. Broadway)

• Best Restaurant: Pizza Rustica Bar & Bistro (3908 N. Sheridan) , Spritz Burger (3819 N. Broadway) and The Dock at Montrose Beach (200 W. Montrose Ave.)

• Good Neighbor (business): Baker & Nosh (1303 W. Wilson Ave.), Everybody's Coffee (935 W. Wilson Ave.), FLATS and Weiss Hospital (4646 N. Marine Dr.)

• Good Neighbor (individual): Aminah Abdullah, Sarah Casey, William Petty and Julianne Scherer

• Best Storefront Display: Everybody's Coffee (935 W. Wilson Ave.), Jakes Pup in the Ruf (4401 N. Sheridan Rd.) and The Public Barber (1319 W. Wilson Ave.)

• Best New Business: Heritage Outpost (1325 W. Wilson Ave.), The Public Barber (1319 W. Wilson Ave.) and The Shift (4101 N. Broadway)

Last year, Pizza Rustica, a Lakeview Italian eatery run by Stefano Roman and his wife Juliana Montebello-Roman, was named Best Restaurant in the ward, which includes most of Uptown and parts of Lakeview. Uptown resident Gene Tenner (recognizable as "that guy on the trike") won the Good Neighbor award in the individual category. Bike shop Uptown Bikes, 4653 N. Broadway, received the Good Neighbor award in the businesses category.
