LINCOLN PARK — Forget the thrift store.

Head to the "Shop the Steeple" rummage sale at Saint Paul United Church of Christ, 2335 N. Orchard St., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 for deals on curated hand-me-downs.

In addition to clothing, toys and books, there will also be kitchen appliances, antiques, art, silver serving pieces and glassware for sale, according to organizer Beverly Petrunich. Most of the smaller items will sell for less than $10, while most of the used furniture will set you back less than $50.

Petrunich said the event, which is in its fifth year, is modeled after church sales on the suburban North Shore.

"Our items are nicely displayed; all clothing is hung and sized, there are no spots, fading, missing buttons/piece; all appliances are tested and if appropriate have new batteries," she said.

Funds from the sale go toward the church's general budget and charities.

Last year, more than 1,600 people shopped the sale in six hours, and the church made $48,000, Petrunich said.

The church is seeking volunteers to help run the sale. For those who are interested, visit the church's website.
