EDGEBROOK — The sixth-annual Paint Edgebrook Pink 5K, which has raised more than $60,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Fund, is set for Oct. 18. organizers said.

The race starts at 9 a.m. in the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve, near Caldwell and Tonty avenues, and be followed by a celebration with food, music and children's activities, officials said.

More than 450 people have participated in the event, which is designed as to bring Edgebrook together as a "community again to show our friends and neighbors affected by breast cancer that they are not alone," said Linda Kramer, the event's founder.

This is the first year the race will take place in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kramer said. In previous years, it has taken place in May.

Registration for the race will be available starting Sept. 9, organizers said.

Volunteers and sponsors are needed for the race, Kramer said.
