HUMBOLDT PARK — The California Clipper is celebrating its 78th anniversary in style.
The storied bar, which was purchased and overhauled by restaurateur Brendan Sodikoff in 2014, is hosting top musicians from a variety of genres over Labor Day weekend.
Famed Chicago jazz guitarist Bobby Broom will be performing at the Clipper all three nights, at 9:30 and 11 p.m. Sept. 3 and at 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Sept. 4 and Sept. 5.
“The California Clipper is a special place and a Chicago institution,” Sodikoff said. “We’re very proud of the artists we host and the quality of live music we’re bringing to the neighborhood.”
Country artist Wild Earp will host a September residency at the bar, 1002 N. California Ave., performing each Tuesday of the month starting Sept. 1.
The Clipper will feature a rotating selection of DJs spinning vinyl before and after Wild Earp's sets including a set by Wilco's bassist John Stirratt.
There is a $3 cover for live shows and all proceeds go to the musicians.
