GRAND CROSSING — Pastor John F. Hannah of New Life Covenant Southeast Church said that everyone should be at Saturday’s city-wide beach prayer service, which is to promote peace.

The 8th Annual Sunrise Service, where more than 7,000 people are expected to attend, will take place on 63rd Street Beach, 63rd and Hayes, from 5-7 a.m. Hannah is extending the invitation to all denominations and faiths.

“When people come together of every denomination, race, not to mourn, but just to seek God, it’s amazing,” he said, describing this service as a “serene atmosphere that gives people an opportunity to meet God at the Water.”

The goal of the service is to unite the city through prayer. Hannah wants attendees to pray for peace to put a stop all of the violence, especially as children are going back to school.

The sunrise service is BYOC, or bring your own chair. Gospel group Anthony Brown & Group Therapy will perform live. The church’s praise team and dance ministry will also take the stage.

New Life is one of Chicago’s largest and fastest growing churches with 22,000 members. The church broke ground in September on a new $26 million facility and it’s currently enrolling children for its $4 million Grand Crossing child care center.

Business, civic and community leaders, as well as Chicago’s interfaith community are expected to attend. The service will be taped and will stream live on www.newlifesoutheast.org and the entire program will rebroadcast on WJYS –TV.
