At The Grafton's Pints for Pups, You Can Drink With Dogs (And Adopt Them)

By Joe Ward | August 26, 2015 6:37am

CHICAGO — You can day drink anywhere on a Saturday in Chicago.

But this Saturday, you can party for a good cause, and hang out with some needy dogs as well.

The Grafton Pub, 4530 N Lincoln Ave., in Lincoln Square is hosting its "Pints for Pups" fundraiser this Saturday afternoon, an event that will raise money for Chicago Canine Rescue and raise awareness for the city's neediest dog population.

The event will feature raffles with goodies donated by neighborhood businesses as well as food and drink specials that will benefit Chicago Canine Rescue, which rescues dogs and cats considered unadoptable by other shelters.

This the first "Pints for Pups" event at Grafton, although there have been fundraisers with the same name organized by PAWS Chicago and other groups.

Half Acre brewery donated a keg for the event. The Grafton will also have a special cocktail, with 100 percent of money from the cocktail's sales going to the shelter. A portion of food sales generated during the event will also benefit the shelter, said Kelly Ortigara, Grafton employee and event organizer.

And, of course, there will be dogs.

Tupac, a 3-year-old Mastiff mix, is one of the many dogs available for adoption through Chicago Canine Rescue.

Taco, a 2-year-old Bichon Frise mix, is one of many dogs available for adoption through Chicago Canine Rescue.

"We wanted to have a fun summer event where you can have some cocktails and hang out with some dogs," Ortigara said. "It's a great, informal way to raise money."

About five dogs will be hanging out with their foster owners at the Grafton Saturday. Those dogs, while there mainly for entertainment purposes, are also up for adoption.

The main purpose of the event is to raise funds for Chicago Canine Rescue, Ortigara said. But finding forever homes for some of the shelter's dogs would be considered a win, she said.

Chicago Canine Rescue takes aged, sick, disabled and other animals in line for euthanasia into their shelter and attempts to adopt them out. Those interested in adopting a dog can should attend the Saturday event, Ortigara said.

"We want to get some exposure for the group and hopefully get some dogs adopted out," she said.

Pints for Pups will take place at the Grafton Pub and Grill, 4530 N. Lincoln Ave., from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. More information can be found on the event's Facebook page.
