CHICAGO — An officer shot a man who pointed a gun at police Friday night, according to a Chicago Police news release.

At 7:30 p.m., police were patrolling in the 1600 block of West 71st Street when they saw a group of men standing in an alley, according to police. A man looked at them and then ran away while holding his side, and police followed him, according to the news release.

At one point the man turned and pointed a gun in the direction of police, so an officer shot at the man, wounding him, according to police.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment, and a weapon was recovered at the scene, according to police. No officers were injured, according to police.
