WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — The Chicago Police Department issued a community alert on Wednesday afternoon after a string of burglaries in Washington Heights.

Nine residential burglaries have occurred this month in the 8800-9100 south blocks between Throop Street and Morgan Street, according to detectives in the Morgan Park district.

In these robberies, two to four male offenders break into the houses through a window. After taking property from inside, the burglars exit through the back door, police said.

One witness described the robbers as between the ages of 18-25, wearing backpacks and running in the alleys with stolen goods, according to police.

Residents are encouraged to call 911 and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people, including any vehicle and license plate information.

Anyone with additional information about these crimes can call the Area South Property Crimes Unit at 312-747-8273.
