ENGLEWOOD — Sign up by Monday for a free tour of the newly expanded Hermitage Street Community Gardens in Englewood.

The third Annual Gardens of Englewood tour starts at 10 a.m. Aug. 22. Meet-up time is 9:30 a.m. at the Sherwood Peace Association, 6101 S. Princeton Ave., where there will be free breakfast. The free bus will leave at 10 a.m., heading to the gardens, 5647 S. Hermitage Ave.

The tour is being put on by Greening Environment Through Gardening, or GET Gardening, and Resident Matters.

For those who want to park their vehicle at the gardens in the morning, they can do that and take a free shuttle bus to breakfast. The shuttle will make trips between 9:15-9:45 a.m.

The community garden was first started in 2011 by Cordia Pugh, an Englewood resident who serves as the garden’s coordinator. Students from Lindblom Math & Science Academy helped design and build the expanded community garden and the veterans' garden. Pugh said tour guides will share the gardens' historical background and provide information on the gardens.

"The plots are filled for this season, but we can take names for our waiting list," she said.
