CANARYVILLE — A rugby-centric block party is coming to the neighborhood tonight.

From 4:30-7:30 p.m. at 42nd Street and Union Avenue, working rugby coaches from Rugby Illinois, a nonprofit that promotes the sport throughout the state, will introduce neighborhood kids to “Rookie Rugby” — a no-contact, flag version of the game.

The block will be closed to create space for the free event and allow children to learn basic rugby skills, play games and win prizes.

The event is part of PlayStreets, a campaign launched to encourage neighborhoods to temporarily close down streets for "pop-up" play spaces for kids.
