One Dead, 10 Wounded in Shootings Since Tuesday Morning, Police Say

CHICAGO — A man was killed and 10 other people were wounded in shootings between Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday morning, police said. They include six people wounded over the course of 45 minutes Wednesday. 

A 20-year-old man died after being shot multiple times in Altgeld Gardens Tuesday night, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Among those wounded was a 25-year-old man was shot in his ankle in Old Town early Wednesday morning, Estrada said.

Also overnight, an 18-year-old man was shot in his left leg in Kenwood Tuesday evening, Estrada said. Almost two hours earlier, a 21-year-old man was in serious condition after being shot in West Englewood, Estrada said.

• Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, a man was in critical condition after he and another man were shot in North Lawndale, police said.

The two men were sitting in a parked van in the 3400 block of West Roosevelt Road when a dark-colored sedan pulled up and someone inside shot at them, Estrada said.

One of the men, 27, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds, Estrada said. The other man, 24, was released from Mount Sinai Hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound in his arm.

• About a half hour earlier, two women were grazed by bullets while sitting on their porch in South Shore, police said.

The women were sitting in the 7800 block of South Cornell Avenue, Estrada said, when they heard gunshots and felt pain. 

One of the women, 48, was grazed in her foot and her chest, Estrada said. The other woman, 50, was grazed in her chest.

Both women were taken to Jackson Park Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, Estrada said.

• Most recently, about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, a 25-year-old woman was shot during a domestic dispute in Greater Grand Crossing, police said.

The woman was arguing with her boyfriend in the 7800 block of South Vincennes Avenue when the man pulled out a gun and fired, Estrada said.

The woman was treated on scene for a graze wound in her back, Estrada said.

• Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 17-year-old was shot in his leg in West Garfield Park, police said.

He was exiting a car in the 4500 block of West Madison Street when he heard gunshots and felt pain, Estrada said.

A friend drove him to Norwegian Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Estrada said.

Police said the teen is a documented gang member.

• About 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, a 21-year-old man was shot three times in North Lawndale, police said.

The man was standing in the 3700 block of West Polk Street when someone walked up and shot at him, Estrada said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with gunshot wounds in his back, his left leg and his left arm, Estrada said.
