UPTOWN — Uptown residents can enjoy some yoga, get checked for meningitis and learn some self-defense tactics at the 48th Ward Satellite Office Tuesday.
All three events will be held at the office at 1006 W. Argyle St. The fun begins with a yoga class taught by Toni Scott, of Yogatones at 10:30 a.m. Scott will show some gentle exercises and relaxation techniques perfect to keep your mind and body relaxed, the office said.
From noon to 2 p.m., the Chicago Department of Health will hold a meningitis info session with free vaccinations.
In June, officials began urging all gay and bisexual men to get vaccinated for the potentially fatal bacterial disease after a man died of the disease. At the time, at least five men had been diagnosed with the disease in Chicago. African-American men have been disproportionately affected by the current outbreak, the Tribune reported.
At 2:30 p.m., officials from the Chicago Police Department will discuss safety issues and self-defense tactics at a Women's Safety Workshop. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing and those who walk using a cane or walker should bring them, officials said.
All of the events are free.
