BRIDGEPORT — Cyclists signed up for Bike4ROW's 1,000-mile ride around Lake Michigan will launch their 15-day journey at Buckingham Fountain Sunday.

The ride, running from July 26 through Aug. 9, supports Recovery on Water (ROW), a non-profit group that provides breast cancer survivors the opportunity to interact and gain support from fellow survivors through rowing.

Proceeds from the event will fund an effort to support a permanent home for Recovery on Water at a new boathouse on the Chicago River's South Branch.

ROW raised over $50,000 in 2014, according to ROW Executive Director Jenn Gibbons.

"Cycling is a growing sport that provides an accessible and fun way to give back to a program like ours," Gibbons said in a statement. "We are excited to welcome cyclists to join us on a beautiful adventure for a great cause."

The ride begins and ends in Chicago, but cyclists will make major stops in Michigan City, South Haven, Muskegon, Boyne City, Cleveland and Milwaukee.
