UPTOWN — The latest arts opening to come out of FLATS Chicago kicks off Friday evening.

Head to the former Wilson Avenue Theater, 1050 W. Wilson Ave., Friday for the real estate group's latest art opening, dubbed "No Sad Stuff," which will showcase pop art that includes nostalgic figures and vibrant hues, according to a news release.

The show was curated by two FLATS residents who participate in one of the real estate group's artist housing programs.

Expect to see work by multimedia artist Grant Goodwine, printmaker Landon Perkins and Jacob Thomas, an artist who has been published in Rolling Stone magazine.

There will also be live music from local folk acts, Wild Skies and Nina Palumbo, as well as live drawings by Goodwine and Perkins.

Event-goers can admire the art with a drink in hand courtesy of KOVAL Distillery.

Cedar Street Co., the developer that operates the FLATS brand, wants to turn the historic theater and gallery space into a seven-story, mixed-use development. Managing partner Jay Michael said he hoped to integrate the theater into the plans.

Cedar Street also wants to build another seven-story development down the street, at 975 W. Wilson Ave. Before it can do so, the developer needs the go ahead from the community and Ald. James Cappleman (46th) to change the zoning designations at both sites.
