CHICAGO — A 37-year-old woman was killed and a 25-year-old man was hospitalized after a crash in Englewood early Friday, police said.

Around 2:25 a.m., the 25-year-old man crashed a 1999 Dodge Stratus into a fire hydrant in the 5500 block of South LaSalle Street. The car was traveling at a high speed when it crashed, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man had to be cut out of the car by rescuers. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Pacheco said.

A 37-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was also taken to Stroger, where she was pronounced dead, Pacheco said.
