CHICAGO — A new Starbucks planned as part of the Englewood Whole Foods development will be the chain's first to focus on hiring and training underserved youths, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Thursday.
The two stores are a part of the $362 million planned Englewood Square development at 63rd and Halsted streets in Englewood.
In total, the development should create and retain 4,140 jobs, the mayor's news release said.
Whole Foods Vice President Bobby Turner in January said the store's goal was to find 25 businesses to bring into the neighborhood, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel has praised the business' work with the community.
Local merchants have said the new Whole Foods store represented more than a new grocery store for Englewood and could benefit their small businesses.
The new Starbucks is expected to open next year.
