BUENA PARK — Buena Park may be a small enclave on the North Side, but its residents are throwing a big outdoor festival to celebrate all of the things that make it unique.

Buena Park Open Day, now in its third year, will be held at Clarendon and Buena avenues from noon - 5 p.m. Sunday.

In addition to live music, local food and architecture tours, a rummage sale, dubbed "The Bazaar on Buena," is debuting for the first time since the fest's inception. In the Smart Love Services' parking lot, shoppers can buy everything from ceramics and handcrafted wood pieces to original water color paintings and hand-knit dog sweaters.

Representatives from Buena Park businesses and organizations like organic community garden, Gingko Gardens, will be on-site, too.

Those looking to learn more about the neighborhood's history can take a 30-minute sidewalk tour of architect George Maher's historic homes on Hutchinson Street. Tours run every half hour from 12:30 - 4 p.m.

Buena Parkers are also invited to tour St. Mary of the Lake Church, 4200 N. Sheridan Road, at either 2:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. The nearly century-old church was designed by Chicagoan Henry J. Schlacks.

Kid-friendly activities will be going on all day. Expect exotic animals, a bouncy house, games, sing-alongs, face painting, hula hooping and story time with Ald. James Cappleman (46th) — all while local bluegrass band Wolf Street Bloodhounds performs.

Need some sustenance after all that fun? Head to Clarendon Avenue and Hutchinson Street, where food trucks like Cupcakes for Courage, Husky Hogs and Meatloaf-a-G-Go, will be stationed.
