NEAR WEST SIDE — A woman in a passing van waved a gun with a laser sight at two people as they walked on the Near West Side on Sunday night, UIC Police said.

At about 8:40 p.m., a UIC student employee and a friend were walking southbound near the 1200 block of South Morgan Street when an older black minivan drove up, according to UIC Police.

The van slowed down near the walkers and the passenger in the van waved a black handgun with a laser sight at the victims, police said.

The victims, who were not injured, ran to a nearby field and the van drove off west on Roosevelt Road, police said.

The driver and a passenger in the van were both described as Hispanic women ages 27-35. The passenger was wearing a cream-colored tank top, police said.

No further descriptions were available.

The Chicago Police Department is leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 311.
