HYDE PARK — The DuSable Museum of African American History will take viewers inside a family coping with Alzheimer’s disease during a free play on Tuesday.

The museum, 740 E. 56th Place, will host a free performance by Gdavis Productions of “Forget Me Not” at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The play follows an African American family coping with a family member with the disease that can lead to severe memory loss and how it affects both them and their community.

African Americans are at a greater risk of getting the disease, which most often begins in people over age 65, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.

A panel of experts will be on hand after the play to talk about the warning signs of Alzheimer’s and the medications and social services available to help cope with the disease.

To register for the play, visit the museum’s event website.
