ENGLEWOOD — A 23-year-old man is dead after being shot in his car early Saturday morning, police said.
At 2:15 a.m. the man was stopped at a red light on the 6900 block of South Lafayette Avenue when two women pulled up next to him in a black sedan and began to talk to him, according to Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
A man in the back seat of the women's sedan then pulled out a gun and fired out of his window, Pacheco said, hitting the 23-year-old in his head.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead on the scene, but later, when he was brought to Stroger Hospital, doctors managed to resuscitate him, Pacheco said. Doctors then pronounced him dead shortly thereafter, Pacheco said.
He was identified as Tavares Herron, of the 5900 block of South Wabash Avenue. He was pronounced dead at 3:39 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Police said the victim was a documented gang member.
