ALBANY PARK — After celebrating the Fourth of July with cookouts and parties, Albany Park residents awoke the next day to news of a fatal shooting that had taken place in the wee hours of the morning near Kimball and Sunnyside.

On Friday, neighbors will gather at that same corner from 6-7 p.m. to send the message that Albany Park is a place of peace and friendship, not violence.

Organized by the community group Albany Park Neighbors, the evening is being billed as "Neighbors Night Out" — a chance to "talk, play some games, have some snacks ... and give Albany Park some love."

Ald. Deb Mell (33rd) and Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th) are expected to attend, and officers from the Albany Park District plan to hold an outdoor roll call there.
