SOUTH LOOP — The Chicago Fire Department closed off nearly two blocks of Wabash Avenue at 8th Street Monday afternoon while a hazmat team investigated an "unknown fluid" there, fire officials said.

Responding to a call of a "suspicious package," the hazardous materials team arrived at the site at about 4:10 p.m. and closed off the area.

They found no dangerous substance and the block was reopened within less than a half hour, a Chicago Fire spokesman said.

A tweet from CFD's media account said the "discarded nitrous oxide tanks" were secure, and no injuries were reported.
