LINCOLN PARK — The 35th Annual Chicago Sprints rowing competition will take over the Lincoln Park Boat Club Saturday.

Scheduled over two days, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., more than 400 races will take place along Lake Shore Drive on a 1,000-meter course. Check out the course map here.

In 2014, 27 teams competed, bringing more than 800 athletes from 10 states. This year’s Sprints will feature 31 teams from all over the Midwest, bringing an estimated 900 rowers to the neighborhood. Those rowers include an Olympian, world champion and novice rowers.

The Chicago Sprints is billed as one of the largest competitive regattas — or boat races — in the region.

Locally, the Bridgeport-based Chicago Training Center, a mentoring center for rowers, will have six boats in the event, rowing under the team name “Cloanthus," a team created for CTC alumni and coaches to compete.

Montana Butsch, the CTC's executive director, said the Chicago Sprints is a good opportunity for parents and aspiring rowers to see just how the sport works.

The event is free.
