CHICAGO — A 47-year-old man was killed and a 43-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting in Washington Heights early Friday, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the man as Grover Tate, of the 1500 block of West 95th Street.

Around 1:20 a.m., the two were walking in an alley in the 9100 block of South Ashland Avenue when someone in a white van opened fire, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Tate was struck in his head and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 a.m., officials said. The 43-year-old woman was shot in her abdomen and buttocks. She was taken to Christ Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

No one is in custody for the shooting, Estrada said.
