CHICAGO — Two 17-year-old boys were shot and wounded on Friday, police said. The shooting came just hours before a nearby St. Sabina neighborhood peace walk in Auburn-Gresham.

The boys were outside in the 7700 block of South Racine Avenue when a person in a silver car shot at them at 4:05 p.m. Friday, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. One of the victims was hit twice in his leg and the other victim was shot once in his leg, Sedevic said.

The victims were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition, Sedevic said.

A neighborhood peace walk was hosted by St. Sabina, 1210 W. 78th Place, about three hours later. The church is well known as a neighborhood gathering spot where the pastor Rev. Michael Pfleger actively promotes anti-violence initiatives. Celebrities like Spike Lee, Common and Cornel West have visited in recent months.

No one is in custody in the shootings and police are investigating, Sedevic said.
